Quick and easy steak tacos are made with any cut of steak you’ve got on hand, and marinated fast in just 1 hour. Dinner will be ready in no time, with the most mouthwatering, flavorful meat I’ve ever had! Serve it taco style or over top of a burrito bowl or salad.
Taco night always sounds like a good idea until I glance at a recipe and realize I pretty much never buy the typical cuts of steak that the recipes call for – skirt steak, flank steak. For some reason they’re just not a go-to for us.
I do always have ribeyes on hand from our ButcherBox (affiliate link)- and I like knowing that I can just grab whatever cut is available at the store in a pinch. Enter this recipe: a few simple marinade ingredients with a blend of Mexican style spices, and you’ll have the most delicious tender steak EVER.
The flavors here are almost indescribable – and I can’t believe how bold they are with such few ingredients. Savory, slightly sweet, zesty from the lime, earthy/smoky from the herbs and spices. I could literally eat this steak all day every day.
Tacos, Burrito Bowls, & Salads – Oh My!
Serve it up taco style with some warmed tortillas! We love Siete Foods tortillas for a paleo option – cassava are our fav but they’re all great! Grab a low-carb tortilla, and make these keto friendly!
Out of tortillas or looking for something different? Scoop the meat over a bowl of rice & shredded lettuce for a quick burrito bowl (with a scoop of guac on top) or over greens and chopped veggies for a taco salad.
Be sure to tag me on Instagram @justjessieb if you make it, and pretty please leave a comment & review below! I would LOVE to hear what you think & how you served it. Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do! It’s in our forever-favorite-recipe rotation for good!
Steak Street Tacos
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp coconut aminos
- 2 tbsp avocado oil
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 2 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 1/2 lbs steak cut into 1/2" pieces
- 6 paleo tortillas see notes
- 1/2 red onion finely diced
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro chopped
- lime wedges for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium to large bowl, combine the coconut aminos, avocado oil, lime juice, garlic, chili powder, cumin, and oregano. Add the steak pieces to the bowl of marinade, stir well, and cover before transferring to the fridge. Refrigerate for 1 to 3 hours.
- Heat a large skillet to medium high heat. Use tongs or a large slotted spoon to add the steak to the pan (don't worry if some of the marinade comes with it – this is good!). Cook in batches so that the steak has space between each piece and will caramelize instead of steaming. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side or until browned. Set aside in a clean bowl, and continue to the next batch until all of the steak is cooked.
- Warm the tortillas over a low flame (or in a skillet on medium if you have an electric stovetop) and fill with steak and top with red onion, cilantro, and fresh lime. Enjoy!
Notes
- Chili Powder: for the chili powder, I use a chili powder blend, like what you would use in a “beef chili” recipe – not chipotle chili powder (which is really spicy).
- Steak: use any cut here. I used ribeyes from ButcherBox, but you could also do flank steak or skirt steak – or whatever you have on hand!
- Paleo tortillas: we buy ours from Siete Foods, found on their website or at Sprouts or Whole Foods Market. The Cassava one is my favorite because it gets crispy and holds together really well, and tastes just like a flour tortilla. But they’re all really great!
- Don’t have coconut aminos? You can substitute soy sauce if you do soy!
- Nutrition Facts calculated without tortillas as it will vary depending on which brand/variety you use.

August 31, 2020 at 10:23 amMy super picky husband said this is the only way I’m allowed to make tacos for the rest of time 😂. Unbelievably easy and out of this world delicious! We served them just as the recipe suggests and added some sliced avocado.
