I love me some barbecue chicken but the flavor has to be just right – and if I’m going to bake it in the oven (which is just so easy most nights and such simple cleanup) – the marinade has got to be the perfect consistency so the sauce doesn’t dry out!

This marinade will leave you with PERFECT barbecue chicken in the oven every time and so much incredible flavor. We love it on its own but the chicken is also SO GOOD sliced and served on a sweet potato… I can share that recipe next but it’s so simple!

This chicken also makes a great meal prep option since the sauce keeps it super juicy even when reheated. You can totally serve cold too on a salad for lunches during the week! Can’t wait for y’all to try this one!

Baked Barbecue Chicken

The best BBQ chicken that's easy baked in the oven and perfect every time! Great on its own or stuffed in a sweet potato
Prep Time5 minutes
Cook Time35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 10 oz barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper more to taste
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450ºF and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • To a bowl large enough to fit all of the chicken, add the marinade ingredients (bbq sauce, coconut aminos, onion powder, black pepper, and garlic). Mix well then add the chicken thighs, stirring to coat.
  • Let the chicken marinate for a few minutes while the oven preheats, or for longer if you like to prep ahead.
  • Pour the chicken and its marinade out onto the lined baking sheet, with the chicken thighs in a single layer and any extra marinade poured over the top of the chicken. Transfer to the oven and bake for about 35 minutes or until the internal temp reads 165+
  • Once out of the oven, I like to brush some of the juices / sauce on top of the baked chicken to keep it extra juicy and flavorful. Enjoy!
