The Snickers bar gets a real food remix with these super easy and oh-so-delicious stuffed dates. Medjool dates are pitted, stuffed, and dipped in dark chocolate for a sweet and satisfying treat that’s loaded with fiber and healthy fats. Pregnant & upping your date intake for the third trimester? These are hands-down the tastiest way to do it!
Pregnant or not, dates are such a great snack: naturally sweet, chewy, and delicious – they are literally like nature’s candy! They also happen to be a great source of fiber, potassium (electrolytes!), magnesium, folate, and Vitamin K. All good things no matter what stage of life you’re in!
For pregnancy specifically, it’s said that dates have an oxytocin-like effect on your body, which can help stimulate contractions once your body goes into labor, and also help with postpartum hemorrhage. Basically meaning a quicker & easier labor… which I’m all for!
For ALL the info & resources on dates & pregnancy, check out Mama Natural’s article HERE. I love her for all things pregnancy. We even took her online birth class when I was pregnant with Hudson! It was so so helpful – the most I learned throughout my entire pregnancy.
Pregnant lady stuff aside, these little treats are serious MAGIC. I made a big batch of them planning for at least a week of Snickers Style Dates for myself, and quickly noticed half were gone… so apparently Dathan really likes them too! They’re honestly addicting.
The date gives this chewy/stretchy caramel vibe, and it’s stuffed with a thin layer of nut butter and a whole roasted almond (or peanut if you want!) for a crunch. See the recipe notes for more ideas!
Dipped in dark chocolate (the dates offer all the sugar you need – really! do dark chocolate!) and sprinkled with flakey sea salt to balance it all out. They are serious heaven, and they even look like a candy bar when you bite into them. Just like a fun-sized Snickers! But so good for you, no crappy sugar crash.

Snickers Style Stuffed Dates
Ingredients
- 12 Medjool dates pitted
- 3 tsp almond butter
- 12 almonds I like roasted & salted
- 4 oz dark chocolate chips or chopped bar
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- flakey sea salt optional, for topping
Instructions
- Slice through each date (just halfway, lengthwise) and remove the pit. Use a butter knife or small spoon to fill with about 1/4 tsp of almond butter, then add a roasted almond to the center. Close each date up and set aside on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Using the microwave or a double boiler method (glass bowl set on top of pot of boiling water), heat the dark chocolate and coconut oil until melted. Stir until smooth and combined.
- Dip each stuffed date into the melted chocolate and stir gently to coat all over. Use a spoon or two fingers to lift each date out of the chocolate, and let any extra fall back into the bowl before transferring to the parchment paper. Sprinkle each date with a pinch of flakey sea salt, if using.
- Transfer the stuffed dates to the refrigerator until the chocolate is hardened, about 30 minutes. Store in the fridge in an airtight container, taking each out a couple of minutes before serving to let it soften just slightly. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute any nut butter and nut combination that you like in this recipe! Try peanut butter + roasted peanuts, cashew butter + roasted cashews, or coconut butter + pecans (for a German chocolate flair!)
- Dark chocolate is great for this recipe since you’re already getting so much sweetness from the dates, but if you only have semi-sweet chocolate on hand it will totally work! Just will be extra sweet.
- These also store well in the freezer! Personally I like the softer chew of the dates in the fridge- but play around & see what you like best!

August 25, 2020 at 3:18 pmThese are delicious and so easy to make. I always loved filling a date with almond butter as a treat but covering it in chocolate with salt is amazing. I also love the crunch of the whole almond inside. Thanks for my new favourite treat!

June 7, 2021 at 8:23 pmI made these for a friend of mine who is in the last weeks of her pregnancy. Her midwife mentioned how good dates were in the last few weeks, so she picked some up and HATED the sweetness and the texture. I told her I would make this recipe for her and she can’t get enough of them!
